Hello Saving Every Day readers! Man, my life been so crazy, but so AWESOME these last few months. In August, I started student teaching and my very last semester of college. I had the most wonderful time at my school. I honestly couldn’t have had a better student teaching experience. Then, in November, I traveled across the Atlantic to teach English in Barcelona, Spain to more than 40 first grade boys! Love at first sight, I tell you! 😉
Between these two adventures, I took a leap a faith and applied for the very competitive Professional Internship (PI) program at WALT DISNEY WORLD! I had heard before my College Program that once you become a Cast Member, you’ll always want to be a Cast Member, but never truly believed it. But woah, were they right! I got what I call the “Disney Itch” (i.e. a strong desire be at The Most Magical Place on Earth) about four months after my CP ended, and it became my mission to get back there!
So back to September when all the PI applications were released. After searching through what seemed like hundreds of PIs, I narrowed down my selection to…SEVEN! Ha, and while I knew this was a lot, I truly was interested in and passionate about them all. The majority of the PIs were teaching related, which was a really important factor in my ultimate decision to return to The Mouse. This was because it made it seem less like a frivolous decision, but rather an important step in my future career.
Fast-forward to the end of October (but what felt like an eternity). After two automatic NLICs (No Longer In Consideration), three interviews via the phone, a background screening, and one magical phone call later, I WAS ACCEPTED!!! To say I was ecstatic is an understatement. My favorite part was that I found out at school and got to share the wonderful news to all my students, who were eagerly waiting to hear any and all Disney updates!
So, about the PI: It is through the Animal, Science and Environment department, and officially I am a “Conservation Education Presenter.” But what I really like to say is that I am a Wilderness Explorer!! Yup, just like Russell from one of my all-time favorite movies UP! As a Wilderness Explorer, I am back at DAK (YAY!) and help guests earn various badges by teaching them about conservation. UGH, how cool?!
I am just so, so, SO excited to be able to work at Walt Disney World again. I am also very proud of myself. Typically, each PI program only takes one to five percent of applicants, so to be selected is a huge honor. Since I have returned home from Spain, I have graduated, celebrated the holidays, and packed, and packed, and packed, ha! But I cannot wait to make my way back to the Sunshine State (AKA, my home state!) and start my adventures as a Wilderness Explorer! Until then, happy New Year, and never forget that, “Adventure is out there!” =D
