Abbreviations
I use a lot of abbreviations because it saves time. Coupon lingo can be very confusing and I can remember not knowing what anyone was talking about. Commonly called “couponese”, it is a language all it’s own. This list will seem overwhelming but you will be surprised how quickly you will pick it up! I have included all the abbreviations that I use and some you might see around the web. If you can think of any I have missed, please leave a comment and share it with us.
When I post my coupon match ups, you will often see this SS 1/3. This means that the coupon I am using was in the January 3rd Smart Source coupon insert found in the Sunday paper. Here are all the coupon insert abbreviations:
RP: Red Plum
V: Valassis
SS: Smart Source
GM: General Mills
K: Kellogg’s
PG: Proctor & Gamble
Other Abbreviations
ECB: Extra Care Bucks
FAR: Free After Rebate
MFC: Manufacturer’s Coupon
MIR: Mail in Rebate
CRT: Customer Receipt Tape
DND: Do Not Double
IVC: Instant Value Coupon (usually at Walgreen’s)
OOP: Out of Pocket
OYNO/OYNP: On Your Next Order or On Your Next Purchase
PSA: Prices Start At
Q: Coupon
IP: Internet Printable
RR: Register Rewards
SC: Store Coupon
TC: Target Coupon
YMMV: Your Market May Vary
WAGS: Walgreen’s
B1G1/BOGO: Buy One Get One
CAT: Catalina (see below)
SCR: Single Check Rebate (Rite Aid Rebate Program)
UPC: Universal Product Code
WYB: When You Buy
Other Coupon Lingo
Peelie: A coupon found on a product that you peel off.
Hangtag: A coupon attached to a product with a hangtag
Blinkie: A coupon that is found in stores that prints out of a little machine
Catalina: A coupon that prints with (on or separate from) your receipt.
Tear Pad: Coupons found on tear pads throughout the store. Look for these everywhere! The best tear pad coupons I find are in random places like Pilot Truck Stops and gas stations. There are usually manufacturer coupons which means you can use them anywhere.
Manufacturer Coupon: Coupons issued by manufacturers that say ‘Manufacturer Coupon’ and can be used anywhere that accepts coupons.
Store Coupon: Coupons issued by the store that are only valid at that store and say either ‘Store Coupon’ or ‘Kroger Coupon’
Brick: Type of printable coupon found online. I will not call it this but you may see this a lot.
Stacking: Means using a store coupon AND a manufacturer coupon on one item at stores that allow it. There will be more information on this in my posts.
$1/1 – Means $1 off 1 item, $0.75/2 is $0.75 off 2 items, etc…
$5/$5 – Means $5 off a $25 purchase
2/$4 – Means 2 items for $4
