Are you prepared for germ season? I learned the hard way about being prepared and why being well-stocked is a must!
Germ season is here, and I’m ready for it! Several years ago, we had a terrible ice storm and were snowed in for four days. Nobody could have predicted the amount of ice we got, so no one was prepared.
Our little town in Kentucky literally looked like Narnia.
Thick ice blanketed everything. Our saving grace was our fireplace. It had an electric start, and right before we lost power, my sister called and suggested I turn it on. At the time, we live in a two-story, 2800 square-foot home, and that fireplace kept the whole house warm – enough.
Portable fryers and grills were how most people cooked and boiled water, including us. Unfortunately, those little propane tanks were nearly impossible to find, and we eventually ran out. After that experience, I swore I would never be unprepared again.
To this day, I keep a part of my linen closet well-stocked with things we may need should we lose power or be stuck at home. Of course, this list changes throughout the year, based on the season! Obviously, we aren’t going to need the same things in the winter that we do when it’s 95° outside.
Cooler weather and germ season is right around the corner!
One thing I always keep stocked is our medicine cabinet. Most of us remember bottled water, candles, and blankets, but we often forget about wellness. What happens if you get sick and can’t get out to get what you need? Since most medicine has a nice long expiration date, it’s one of the things you can stock up on now and be prepared later. I recently cleaned out my closet, threw away anything that was expired and restocked
As y’all know, Kroger is my go-to spot for just about everything. They’ve got an impressive selection of health and wellness products, and their prices are always great!
My husband is a snorer, so one of the things that I always have on hand are Breathe Right Extra Clear Strips. They help him tremendously, but they’re also great for any kind of nasal congestion! Once in place, the little bands help open the nasal passages, making it easier to breather. They’re awesome!
TYLENOL® Cold+Flu Day/Night helps with multiple symptoms and pain, so it’s just a great all-around product to have on hand. The honey and lemon liquid is what we like. It feels warm going down and tastes good! The night option may also help with sleep, which is always nice, especially when you’re sick. You can also read my tips for getting better sleep.
I keep Kleenex Anti-Viral tissues stocked year-round. Soft tissues are just one of those things that when you need them, you need them. Paper towels and toilet paper are just not the same, and leave an already not-happy nose even more irritated.
Dial Complete Foaming Hand Wash is another thing I always have on hand. Just washing your hands regularly can drastically reduce the spread of germs and sickness, so I keep a bottle at every sink!
I’m allergic to dust and dander, which is a difficult thing to get away from. One of my biggest issues is drainage, and that leaves my throat irritated a lot. Halls Cough Drops are perfect for those times you just need a little something to help soothe your throat.
I tried Theraflu ExpressMax Severe Cold & Flu Syrup for the first time recently and have been buying it ever since. I was astonished at quickly it worked! It’s powerful relief without a prescription and helps relieve a sore throat, nasal and chest congestion, fever, headache, and more! It’s another great, all-around medicine to have stocked!
