One of my favorite things about the holidays is all the fun parties we get to have, and Halloween is no exception! But now that I’m a grandma to a six-year-old, I find myself doing things a lot differently. Halloween can be scary, especially for little kids, so I prefer to keep things spooky – in a cute way.
I’ve also found that when my granddaughter gets to help, she has a more open mind, especially when it comes to cooking. So when I talked to her about having a “scary” Halloween party, she was super excited and couldn’t wait to get started!
It’s been a long time since my kids were little, so it’s been a learning experience all over again – and oh-my-gosh – the messes. So I definitely had that thought in the back of my head when I was planning this party. Since I knew the kids would want to run around and play outside, I wanted to make a dessert that was fun, portable and (hopefully) mess-free – and the Go-Paks! were a perfect vessel! Not only are they plastic and leak-proof, but the lid makes them easily portable and reusable. They’re also only about half full, so there’s plenty of room for other ingredients. Since the entire dessert can be made right inside in the cup, it’s easy for the kids to help without making a mess.
My semi-homemade cookies and cream dessert has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. My sister gave me a similar recipe years ago and I’ve adapted it over the years. The addition of pudding might surprise you, but it makes the ice cream rich and creamy! The fun thing about this dessert is that you can adapt it to suit your tastes, which is why I love using the Go-Paks! and Snack Pack Pudding. They’re both only $1.00 each at Walmart, so I can buy everyone’s favorite flavors without spending a fortune!
You can find everything you need for these fun desserts at your local Walmart store, and I’ve got a coupon for you too! You’ll get a FREE NABISCO Go-Paks! (up to $1.00) when you buy (1) Snack Pack® Pudding (2.25 oz. or larger). Go here to print yours!
The Reddi-wip can be found in the dairy case, which is usually in the back of the store.
The Snack Pack Pudding can be found in the grocery aisles near the other baking products.
And the Go-Paks! can be found near the registers or the bulk bins, which are located all around the store. At my store, they’re near the electronics section.
There are several different varieties to choose from. For this project, I picked up five different packages of Go-Paks!, two packages of Snack Pack Pudding and one can of Reddi-wip.
Here’s what you’ll need for (1) OREO cookies and cream dessert cup:
- 1 – OREO Go-Paks!
- 1 – Snack Pack Pudding Chocolate Cup
- 1/2 cup Reddi-wip – original flavor
- Vanilla ice cream – any kind
- Halloween duct tape
- Plastic googly eyes
Start by emptying the contents of the Go-Paks! into a dish and set aside. Cover the outside of the Go-Paks! with the duct tape. I found it was easier to cut it into three strips and work from the bottom up. If you can’t find Halloween patterned duct tape, you can also just use black, orange or purple.
Once you’ve got it completely covered, put a drop of glue on the back of each googly eye and place them wherever you want them. I used super glue but if you’re letting the kids do this part, you can use a glue stick or any other kid-safe glue. Make sue the glue is dry before moving on to the next step.
Crush about 1/2 cup of the cookies you set aside and pour them into the bottom of the Go-Paks! cup. If you don’t want to dirty a bowl, you can also just leave them whole.
Next add about 1/2 – 3/4 cup of ice cream and stir to combine. I preferred a little more, so I went with 3/4 cup of ice cream, which still left plenty of room for the Snack Pack Pudding and Reddi-wip.
Next add one full Snack Pack Pudding and stir to combine. We used chocolate, which resulted in an extra-chocolatey “cookies and cream” type dessert.
If you want to eat this like soft-serve, you can continue on to the next step. If you want the ice cream a little firmer, you can pop the lid back on the Go-Paks! and put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes before proceeding.
Top with Reddi-wip and a cookie before serving. I used about 1/2 cup for each one.
If you have any leftover, you can just pop the lid back on and store them in the freezer!
If you make these at home, be sure to come back and let me know how it turned out or share a picture on our Facebook page! I’d love to see what flavor combinations you come up with! Happy Halloween!!
