Tips For Saving Money At Disney World

Disney New and Deals

With our Disney trip being only 72 days away, I have been in full ‘Disney Planning Mode’. For the next couple of months, I’ll be sharing some of the ways we save money at Disney. Here are a few tips to get started:

1 – Keep an eye out the the Special Offers. It blows my mind when I hear what some people pay for their trips. My biggest savings come from planning. I usually lock in our days months (like 6-12) in advance and then apply different codes as the special offers are announced. I recently just switched from free dining to a 40% code and saved over $600 on our trip.

2 – Buy as much as you can in advance (using coupons of course!) I stock up on items that I can use at Disney all year long, and to be honest, usually get most of our HBA and snacks free with coupons. How much you can bring will be determined by how you will arrive at Disney. We drive so we bring a LOT. A case of water is $2.97 at Walmart vs. $3 a bottle at the park. I also bring medicine, bandaids, snacks and much more (list provided at a later date). The less you have to buy at the park, the more you’ll save.

3 – If you are staying at a Disney resort, purchase a refillable mug. It’s estimated that they pay for themselves with 6 fills. My husband and I love waking up early and walking around the resort with our coffee. Sometimes we refill them 2-3 times before 8am! My kids also enjoy having their own mug and being able to get what they want, when they want. The mugs usually run around $13.99 but will save you a ton of money over the course of your stay.

4 – Share meals. Whether you are on the dining plan or not, sharing meals saves money. The portions at some Disney restaurants are huge. My daughter and I can order one tuna sandwich and one soup at Columbia Harbour House. We both eat 1/2 the sandwich and share the soup, carrots and chips and are completely satisfied. I have also heard of people ordering an extra bun and splitting the patties on a double cheeseburger. If you are at one of the locations with a burger bar, like Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, this is a fabulous idea!! And if you are on the dining plan, this will only use one quick service credit. It is also helpful to know that counter service displays everything as meals, but they don’t need to be ordered that way.

5 – Drink water. We are water drinkers so this one is pretty easy for us. Before you leave, you can buya few boxes of those little individually sized beverage powder packets (Kool Aid, Crystal light, etc.) to add to the water. You can get free water at any counter service or table service restaurant at Disney.

That’s it for now but there will be much more to come!
